1. Home survey

I’ll visit your home and undertake a thorough survey.  It usually takes 1-2 hours.

I’m a trained home energy assessor. I conduct the room-by-room heat loss survey to MCS standards, the recognised benchmark for heat pump design & installation.

Once we’ve had an initial chat, you can leave me to it.

What happens during the survey?

  • Augmented Reality software is used to produce an accurate floor plan. It also captures all the details of your home’s fabric and energy efficiency opportunities.
  • A heating & electrical inspection, including heating pipework, electrical connection and radiators is the basis for designing your new heating system.
  • We take the whole home into account. We identify energy improvements that get your home ready for a heat pump. That includes the most cost-effective energy efficiency measures and other changes to ensure you are warm and the heating is hyper-efficient.

2. Heat Pump Plan

Your heat pump plan will arrive in your inbox within 1 week.

The 8-page report includes everything you need to make the switch with confidence. It has 4 sections:

  • Your home - your existing heating system, how your home retains heat & recommended energy improvements
  • Your heat pump - The right heat pump specification for you. We provide accurate estimates of energy bills, costs and carbon using energy market data and the latest tariffs.
  • Installation - where it will go, changes to your home to get it ready and any issues we’ve spotted.
  • Action Plan - your personal, step-by-step guide to getting your heat pump installed.

3. Free on-going support

The Heat Pump Plan is your personalised guide to getting a heat pump. You will feel confident and clear on what to do next.

We also stay on hand to help. The ongoing support is included free with every Heat Pump Plan. This includes:

  • A 1-2-1 follow-up consultation.
  • An introduction to a recommended installer
  • An independent review of your quotes

Finding a good installer you trust can be a real headache. We have established relationships with heating engineers who are experienced in low-temperature heating design & installation. They have a track record of excellent workmanship and attention to detail. We will recommend the right type of installer for your property. The perfect match.

Whether you choose our installer or not, we can provide an independent review of your quotes. Evaluating installers against your Heat Pump Plan gives you peace of mind before the job starts.

Why get Electric Owl to guide you?

Our approach to serving our customers is underpinned by 3 core principles:

  1. Independent We don't sell heat pumps. We don't always recommend them. We can suggest what's right for the homeowner, like upgrading your radiators as you renovate for example.
  2. Easy-to-understand advice Homeowners shouldn't need to learn hydronics to get a heat pump. You don't want to wade through long reports with technical jargon. We answer your questions in plain English.
  3. Home energy, not just heat Heat pumps are more than just a new source of heat. Paired, with new tariffs and other home energy tech they can reduce running costs dramatically. We also include improvements to the building fabric where it fits in with your renovation plans.

Don't I want a Retrofit Assessment?

Read our guide to choosing the right home energy advice service for you. Retrofit Assessment vs Heat Pump Plan

The short answer is that a retrofit assessment won’t help if you want a heat pump. But it's the right choice if you only want to insulate your home.

What information do I need to provide?

We want to know about your home improvement plans and how a heat pump fits in.

You can tell us about your home, like insulation-levels and how much you pay for heating, but that’s optional.

Can I cancel my Heat Pump Plan?

You can cancel or reschedule your Heat Pump Plan up to 72 hours before the survey is due to take place.

Its non-refundable less than 72 hours before the survey is due to take place. The Plan cannot be returned.

Contact us to reschedule your survey.

Do you charge the same fee for all homes?

We charge a flat fee based on the size of your home.

  1-2 bed: £285
  3-4: £345
  5+: £395

That includes free on-going support.

We may change an additional fee if your home is especially large or complex. It allows us extra time to complete the survey. If that sounds like your home, contact us.

Can you make a Heat Pump Plan for any home?

In most cases, yes. It might not be possible in some homes with unique types of construction or specific historic features. Contact us if you want to check.

What standards does the Heat Pump Plan meet?

The survey is undertaken by trained Domestic Energy Assessors.

The room-by-room heat loss assessment, noise assessment and heat pump performance estimate are undertaken to MCS certified standards, the recognised standard for heat pumps and installers.
