Retrofit West

What is Retrofit West?

Retrofit West is a newly formed Community Interest Company (CIC) that is helping homeowners in the West of England to make their homes more comfortable and energy efficient.

Funded by the West of England Combined Authority, their goal is to make it easier for us to cut the carbon emissions that come from our homes. If you live in the West of England - which covers Bristol, Bath & North East Somerset and South Gloucestershire - then you can benefit from their help.

In addition to funding home assessments - including our Heat Pump Plans - Retrofit West also offer a free advice service and phone line. They can signpost available grants and support schemes for example.

What is a home assessment voucher?

You get up to £250 off a home assessment.

Retrofit West’s vouchers help cover the cost of a home assessment. So you can get expert advice about energy efficiency and heat pumps for less.

The voucher is worth £250 or two-thirds of the costs of the assessment. Whichever amount is lower. That’s up to 66% off.

The West of England Combined Authority has invested £10 million in retrofit schemes. That includes Retrofit West home assessment vouchers as well as other schemes. There are other projects tackling green skills and small businesses, for example.

Retrofit West has funding for 20245 and 2025. The home assessment vouchers can be stopped by Retrofit West before then if they run out of budget.

Don't I want a Retrofit Assessment?

Read our guide to choosing the right home energy advice service for you. Retrofit Assessment vs Heat Pump Plan

The short answer is that a retrofit assessment won’t help if you want a heat pump. But it's the right choice if you only want to insulate your home.

What information do I need to provide?

We want to know about your home improvement plans and how a heat pump fits in.

You can tell us about your home, like insulation-levels and how much you pay for heating, but that’s optional.

Can I cancel my Heat Pump Plan?

You can cancel or reschedule your Heat Pump Plan up to 72 hours before the survey is due to take place.

Its non-refundable less than 72 hours before the survey is due to take place. The Plan cannot be returned.

Contact us to reschedule your survey.

Do you charge the same fee for all homes?

We charge a flat fee based on the size of your home. In the West of England with a Retrofit West voucher:

  1-2 bed: £95 £285
  3-4: £115 £345
  5+: £145 £395

That includes free on-going support.

We may change an additional fee if your home is especially large or complex. It allows us extra time to complete the survey. If that sounds like your home, contact us.

Can you make a Heat Pump Plan for any home?

In most cases, yes. It might not be possible in some homes with unique types of construction or specific historic features. Contact us if you want to check.

What standards does the Heat Pump Plan meet?

The survey is undertaken by trained Domestic Energy Assessors.

The room-by-room heat loss assessment, noise assessment and heat pump performance estimate is undertaken to MCS standards, the recognised standard for heat pumps and installers.
